We have decided to rely on 169 cases of Girl Scout cookies rather than boring MREs and expensive freeze-dried fare for TEOTWAWKI sustenance.
But seriously, the coop portion of the garage has become a temporary distribution warehouse for my granddaughter's troop. Good timing came out of a bad experience obtaining chicks.
We had made arrangements with a local chicken farm to get 3 each of Speckled Sussex, Wellsummers, Black Copper Marans, and Plymouth Barred Rocks. The other day we emailed them asking to add 3 each of Golden Laced Wyandottes and Buff Orpingtons. They emailed back to inform us that they would not be able to sell us the one day old chicks as agreed to previously. They would only sell fully started pullets (point of lay at approximately 6 months old) for a highly increased price of course! Fortunately, no mone had changed hands and we are now dealing with another chicken farm in an adjoining state.
The bottom line is buyer beware, especially when dealing with individuals (Craigslist) as opposed to businesses such as Tractor Supply Company.
